Short Film: “Muse” by A. N. DeBerry *Revised*
Woke up this morning and decided to thumb through some old issues of MovieMaker Magazine and Indie Slate, and from no where, completely out of left field an IDEA for a short film comes to me! Been busy writing it all day and won’t stop till it’s finish! Didn’t plan on making a short this year but looks like the fates had other plans! ^_^
First finished Script, all the other ones are in a messy ugly pile of unfinished parts, as any good writer would have them! LoL Take a read, let me know what you think! I have a script, now what?! LoL

FADE IN:
EXT. BEACH - SUNRISE
In the distance, the rising sun peaks above the Atlantic
ocean, it’s warm gleam stretching across JORDAN’S face,
waking him from his sleep. He looks about confused and
disoriented, perhaps even a bit scared at the fact he is
waking up on the sands of the beach with only a hazy
recollection of the previous night.
A small hand comes up and brushes his right cheek. Jordan
looks down in confusion that quickly turns to delight as he
takes into view a beautiful YOUNG LADY, her head rested upon
his chest and cuddling his left side.
He watches for a moment as the sun’s glow fills her hair, as
she continues to rub his cheek, smiling happily in her
sleep.
JORDAN
All this is but a dream, too
flattering sweet to be substantial.
At his words she stirs, fluttering her eyes to the morning
light that fills her features.
YOUNG LADY
What… what did you say?
She looks up to him.
JORDAN
(smiling)
I said… I said you are the most
beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen.
At that the Young Lady smiles and laughs and again rests her
head on his chest, then closes her eyes.
Jordan looks at her with delight and pulls his arms around
her and closes his eyes, falling back to sleep with her.
EXT. BEACH - MORNING
JORDAN’S POV
With his sleeping eyes closed, from somewhere O.S. the
sounds of children’s laughter, talking, music and a dog’s
barking fills the darkness.
The sounds wake Jordan, who blinks through foggy eyes at the
beach no longer empty but full of people enjoying the sun
and sea.
He brings his hands up and rubs his eyes.
BACK TO SCENE:
The morning sun is bright and warm on the back of Jordan’s
hands as he rubs his eyes, then he stops. Lowering his hands
slowly till only his eyes are free to look past his fingers,
he stares out into the ocean, and remembers.
Jerking his head to the left he searches frantically for the
girl that fills his thoughts, not finding her he stands
confused and continues his frantic search for her.
After a moment he looks down and then back up smiling,
snickering as he shakes his head, not once noticing the
SMALL NOTE PAGE clipped to his blazer breast pocket with a
pen.
He takes another long look around him, his face full of
regret and disappointment, before he walks away from the
beach.
EXT. BEACH - SIDE ROAD - MORNING
Jordan walks along the dozens of cars along the road.
People with their families walk past, everyone headed for
the beach.
Mentally Jordan goes through what just happened to him, not
to sure if any thing at all truly happened.
Facially he goes from confused, regretfully to happy only to
start the cycle all over.
As he nears a Motel in the distance, he finally settles on
joy, laughing out loud with a wide smile as he takes out his
notebook hoping to write something, but becomes disappointed
when he can’t find a pen.
Confused at being without pen, Jordan shrugs and continues
to walk.
INT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - MORNING
Jordan burst into his dark room with a smile on his face,
the morning sun beaming into the room, his room mates
protest loudly to it’s light.
CB
Ah! Shit, to bright… to bright!
VERGILE
What the hell man? Close the door.
Jordan closes the door and moves to the large window of
their room.
JORDAN
Something happened… last night.
I’m not sure what happened, but I.
. . I feel different, clearer?
TURTLE
(jokingly)
Ha, thank somebody got some butt
last night!
Jordan’s friends laugh.
SINCLAIR
Is that it fool, finally get some
ass, wit so bitch self?!
They laugh again.
Jordan stands in front of the heavy curtains of the window,
with smile on his face.
JORDAN
(laughing)
I don’t even remember?
He said before he threw open the blinds, bright morning
light flooding the room, his friends cursing and falling
from their beds trying to cover their eyes.
Jordan moves to his bag, opening it, he pulls out a pen and
notebook.
SINCLAIR
Ah! Man, what the fuck!
TURTLE
Shit! I guess it’s time to get up,
then.
CB
Fuck I’m hungry!
VERGILE
What the hell are you doing, J?!
Jordan moves to the table, topped with a large boom box,
next to the window and begins to write quickly, dashing
thoughts onto the page, wanting to take advantage of the
blissful feeling he was in.
From outside BO burst into the room.
BO
(laughing)
Morning bitches!
Bo takes a deep breath.
BO
And what a beautiful morning it is.
Bo enters the room and closes the door behind him.
SINCLAIR
Why you so happy, bitch?
CB
(joking)
Don’t tell me got some booty too.
BO
O and what juicy booty it was!
VERGILE
Man, what the fuck! We out her with
all this rampant ass around us and
our dicks still dry as fuck?
SINCLAIR
(to Bo)
Yeah, how the fuck just yo punk
self and J, getting ass?
Bo turns to Jordan who is consumed with his writing.
BO
(to Jordan)
Wow! You telling me you fucked that
angel, from last night?!
Everyone turns and looks at Jordan, who himself looks up to
Bo.
JORDAN
(confused)
What the hell are you talking
about?
Bo moves to sit on the edge of the bed in front of Jordan
and looks at him confused.
BO
Fuck! I guess you where that fucked
up. You don’t remember… fuck
she was like nothing I’ve ever
seen.
TURTLE
Was she hot as hell?
BO
No man, she was wife material,
beautiful and perfect! Every
fucking dude in the damn bar was
looking at her, and our man here. .
.
Bo points at Jordan, who’s eyes where wondering on the rooms
carpet floor trying to remember something, anything from
last night.
MEMORY FLASH
A young girls’ face edged with sunlight.
JORDAN
(to himself)
No… that was a dream?!
BO (CONTD)
Was the only one she would talk to.
Fuck, the only one she would look
at!
SINCLAIR
Bull shit!
TURTLE
You serious?!
JORDAN
(to himself)
No… I don’t remember. It was a
dream, she was a dream… wasn’t
she?
BO
(to Jordan)
No man… she wasn’t.
Jordan looks up to BO.
DISSOLVE TO:
FLASHBACK - INT. JAKE’S BILLIARDS - NIGHT
Jordan and Bo walk into the bar. It’s packed with people who
laugh, drink and play pool at the many available tables.
BO (V.O.)
So as soon a we left y’all to those
girls at the pier, we went over to
the local beer joint some cute ass,
local girls said was the spot…
and it was.
Jordan and Bo walk through the packed room to the bar.
BO (V.O.)
I even got our little depressed
poet here to drink a little.
JORDAN’S FRIENDS (V.O.)
(laughing)
Oh shit!
Jordan and Bo find seats at the bar and take a sit.
BO
Come on man, you’re always
complaining how you always do the
same thing, how the boredom of back
home is butt fucking your writing
to death! Dude let the fuck loose!
Tonight have some drinks and chill,
you know something new!
JORDAN (V.O.)
But alcohol taste like mosquito
piss!
JORDAN
But alcohol taste like mosquito
piss!
BO
Just one night, step the fuck out
of your usual and live a little,
man.
Jordan turns in his stool and looks around the bar.
JORDAN
I don’t know man.
Jordan’s eyes fall on a YOUNG LADY through the crowd, on the
opposite end of the bar.
The BARTENDER walks up to them.
BARTENDER
What can I get you fellas?
BO
I guess just me then. Yeah, a eager
bomb and a… y’all got
Victory’s?
BARTENDER
Yep, sure do.
Jordan turns from his staring of the girl, to staring of the
bar top in front of him, he shakes his head.
JORDAN
Double that!
BO
What?! Fuck yeah!
Bo shakes Jordan by the shoulders.
BARTENDER
Double eager bombs and Vi’s, coming
up.
The Bartender walks off to get their drinks.
BO (V.O.)
So we spend some time getting
right, me talking to anything
pretty that comes near. Jordan,
fucking aloud, having a drunken
argument with himself about trying
to gather up the nuts to talk to
some girl.
VERGILE (V.O.)
(laughing)
Fucking again J?! We got to work on
that yo.
SINCLAIR (V.O.)
Yeah man you always putting pussy,
not even up on a fucking pedestal,
you like plopping that shit up on
ah fucking alter!
TURTLE (V.O.)
Dude, you do kind of suck when it
comes to the hoes, my dude.
JORDAN (V.O.)
Thanks for that pep talk, fuckers!
BO (V.O.)
Yeah but that wasn’t even the worst
of it, if I had known, I wouldn’t
have let him touch a fucking drop!
CB (V.O.)
What the fuck happened?
The Music playing in the bar stops as an announcer at the
back of the bar talks to everyone through his mic.
ANNOUNCER
Alright everybody, It’s Thursday
night and it’s about that time! Who
ever with the cojones and the good
grace to bless us all with a song,
come up and sign up for Karaoke! We
start in 30!
Bo’s eyes grow big.
BO
Oh shit?!
Bo turns to Jordan, scared only to become confused when he
sees only Jordan’s empty stool, turning in circles.
He looks around the bar, finally catching Jordan’s back
moving through the bar’s crowd to sign up for Karaoke.
JORDAN FRIENDS (V.O.)
(laughing)
O you fucked you Bo! And he was
drunk?! Fuck I’m pissed I missed
that!
BO (V.O.)
I know right, I was gearing up to
be embarrassed to death by this ass
till the first person to sing went
up there… but then I didn’t
care about anything, no one did.
ANNOUNCER
… come on up.
a YOUNG LADY comes walks up to sing, her face hidden from
view by the shoulders and heads of those she passed, the
eyes of everyone fixed on her as she walked.
ANNOUNCER
Here you go sweet heart, sing away.
The Announcer hands her the mic, and walks away, as she
turns to to the crowd.
JORDAN (V.O.)
(confused)
What did she look like.
BO (V.O.)
Beautiful, like a dream…
MEMORY FLASH
A young girls’ face edged with sunlight.
BO (V.O./CONTD)
… Something you don’t even want
to believe real, till you see it. .
.
Jordan at the bar squints and shields his eyes as the young
girls face emits a blinding light, the color of sunrise,
that only effects him.
BO (V.O./CONT’D)
…Because the thought of such a
wonder only reminds you of others.
. . others you’ve missed … a
thought so ugly, it hurts.
He strains to see past the light but can’t, finally giving
up, he closes his eyes in pain.
JORDAN’S POV
The blackness of Jordan’s closed eyes is slowly filled with
the sound of music, a very familiar tune to him.
Somewhere Over The Rainbow (OVER)
RETURN TO SCENE:
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. COUNTRY SIDE - FARM FIELD - DAY (BLACK AND WHITE)
Somewhere Over The Rainbow (OVER) Continues to play.
Jordan opens his eyes and sees a colorless countryside land
scape, as a YOUNG LADY in the distance, sings to the sky.
Jordan approaches her with a smile on his face as she rounds
a hay stack that blocks his vision of her.
As he moves around it, he becomes confused as she is no
where to be seen, the sound of her singing still filling the
air around him.
He lays back against the hay stack and closes his eyes.
Small hands reach down from O.S. and cup his face.
He opens his eyes with a bright smile and looks up, only to
find a sky without color.
Jordan looks down then back up, confused at the fact that he
is now sitting on the ground in front of the YOUNG LADY, who
sits on a bale of hay, the sun above shadowing her face.
He shields his eyes from the suns glare as she takes his
face in her hands and moves her’s closer to his, blocking
the sun and exposing her features.
She sings the final few lyrics of the song to him, as his
eyes travel over ever single bit of her face.
When she finishes the song she smiles to him and kisses him
on the lips.
The sounds of applause and cheers sound from O.S.
BO (V.O.)
That was great, your turn J!
Bo says with a barely audible voice, that grows stronger and
stronger.
BO (V.O.)
Jordan! Jordan! Your turn! Fucker,
snap out of it!
Bo shouts almost deafening, Jordan’s eyes jerk open while
still kissing the Young Lady.
QUICK CUT TO:
FLASHBACK - INT. JAKE’S’ BILLIARDS - NIGHT
Jordan looks about confused, looking at the drink in his
hand and placing it down carefully, staring at it worriedly.
BO
You okay?
JORDAN
Ah… yeah, yeah I’m good.
BO
Well that’s good, your up!
JORDAN
(confused)
I’m up?
Realizing Bo’s meaning, Jordan shakes his head, then stands
from his seat.
JORDAN
(smiling)
I’m up!
Jordan marches through the crowd, up to the mic.
With mic in hand waiting for the music to start, Jordan
looks around the bar for the YOUNG LADY who just finished,
but can’t find her in the crowd.
Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (OVER)
As the music plays Jordan sings effortlessly, never looking
at the lyrics on the page. He sings with so much feeling and
love that the crowd are drawn in, clapping and cheering,
some singing along with him.
At the end of the second verse at the sound of the flute
solo Jordan and the crowd turn to the bar to find Bo playing
a FLUTE and dancing at the same time. The crowd cheers him
on.
As the Bo finishes his flute solo, Jordan turns in confusion
and delight as a group from the crowd stand from their
seating with brass horns and begin to play along with the
horn solo.
Jordan hums and dances to the horns and as they finish he
sings on.
QUICK CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - MORNING
SINCLAIR
What the fuck Bo?! Where the fuck
did you get a flute?!
CB
Hey man I didn’t know you could
play anything.
BO
I didn’t preform no fucking flute
solo last night, dumb ass!
Jordan stands from his seating, and walks over to his bag.
JORDAN
Hey that’s the way I remember it.
VERGILE
So what happened with the girl, J?
JORDAN
I don’t remember. I woke up on the
beach with her next to me.
TURTLE
Damn! The fucking beach?
JORDAN
Yeah but we feel back to sleep, and
when I woke the second time she was
gone… I thought she was just a
dream.
Jordan said with a weak smile.
CB
Well, what are you going to do, go
looking for her or something?
JORDAN
She left me on the beach man, I
don’t think she wants me to chasing
after her.
TURTLE
I don’t know man, girls usually
like it when you give’em a little
chase.
JORDAN
No they don’t… wait do they?
Fuck I suck when it comes to girls.
I don’t know what to do!
Jordan slumps down on the bed, looking defeated, as Bo
notices the NOTE PAGE pinned to his blazer pocket.
BO
What the fuck is that?!
Bo said taking the note from Jordan’s pocket.
JORDAN
What’s that?
Bo gives the note a quick look over.
BO
Holy shit! It’s a note… from
the girl… from last night!
SINCLAIR
(laughing)
Bullshit!
TURTLE
What’s it say?
BO
One second, one second let me read.
Bo reads the note to him self, a smile growing on his face
as he did, everyone crowding around him as he did, all but
Jordan.
BO
She says, “last night was the best
night of my life!”
VERGILE
Nice, J!
BO (CONTD)
(confusion, disbelief)
”And I am more then willing for
another. Meet me at the pier at 9
if your up for another too!” Hugs
and kisses, hugs and kisses?!
Everyone looks up at each other and then to Jordan, who’s
face fills with dread.
JORDAN
What?!
CB
Fuck… we got a lot of work to
do!
All of Jordan’s friends nod in agreement.
JORDAN
(confused)
What are you talking about?
TURTLE
I don’t know what you did, but you
dropped it hell’ah heavy on this
chick!
SINCLAIR
Now we just gotta make sure you
don’t fuck it up with being you!
All of Jordan’s friends nod in agreement again.
JORDAN
What…
Jordan backs away from them around the bed, finding room to
pace back and forth.
JORDAN (CONTD)
… I can’t meet her, I wouldn’t
know what to say. I don’t even
remember what the fuck I said to
get this far… and if she looks
any thing like what I remember from
this morning…
Jordan pauses and grins, up at the dirty ceiling.
JORDAN (CONTD)
… I can’t, fuck! But I want to,
but I can’t! Why the fuck can’t I?!
Jordan continues to argue with himself as his friends form a
huddle.
SINCLAIR
At it again, crazy bastard! What
are we going to do! He needs this
man!
BO
I know, I know, but he’s already on
full punk ass mode!
TURTLE
Let’s just help his bitch self
without him knowing!
CB
We get him fresh, lie to his
fucking face, and sit his ass right
down in this little pretty girl’s
lap!
VERGILE
Was she really that banging, Bo?!
BO
You wouldn’t fucking believe!
SINCLAIR looks back at Jordan, still arguing with him self
and shakes his head before he turning back to the circle.
SINCLAIR
Let’s help this sorry bitch get
some ass!
TURTLE
(laughing)
Maybe he already has… but at
least this time he’ll fucking
remember!
BO
So mission unbitch’ahfy is in
effect?
The ring of them look to each other and nod.
CB
Fuck yeah it is!
The ring of them all clap their hands, something falls from
Bo’s pocket as he does.
JORDAN FRIENDS
Break!
CB
(whispers)
Ah, Bo you dropped something.
Bo looks down and sees a small shiny FLUTE. He bends down
and picks it up before anyone else sees it.
BO
Keep this shit to yo self, man!
CB
(laughing)
Fo sho, man! Relax.
They all go to Jordan, telling him it’s okay, he doesn’t
have to go see her, they’ll just go out and hang tonight,
better to just leave her be.

Finishing their meal they sit around a table, Jordan’s boom
box taking it’s own seat, a few stretching and others
rubbing their stomachs in pleasant defeat.
TURTLE
Damn, that was good! So what’s the
plan tonight?
SINCLAIR
The same old.
VERGILE
(jokes)
Get drunk and find something soft
to squeeze on?
CB
(laughing)
That’s pretty much plan A through F
ain’t it.
BO
Yeah well lets get to it, theirs a
party going on, on the beach, so
maybe we should start there?
TURTLE
Beach party, fuck!
Bo looks down at his watch and jumps up in shock.
BO
Fuck! And it’s about to start.
Shall we gentlemen?
Bo gives them his best uppity bow.
SINCLAIR
You got damn right, we shall!
They all get up from their seats, tipping and say good by to
their waitress.
EXT. BEACH - BOARD WALK - NIGHT
They walk along the board walk, saying hello to any female
that passes by.
Bo notions his head to the distance, as a few of them turn
to look, Jordan only smiles at the night sky, consumed by
the moment of the night ocean air and the music that plays
from his boom box.
Turtle reaches in his pocket and pulls out a box of
cigarettes.
TURTLE
Fuck you weren’t joking Bo. Someone
got a light.
Jordan looks down to turtle as Bo hands him a lighter.
JORDAN
What?
BO
O nothing, it’ll come to you in a
bit.
Bo said as the others began to snicker and laugh.
Jordan looked to them in confusion then turns around, his
eyes growing with dread as he just now notices he’s standing
at the beginning of the pier, and not to far up it, a girl
stands resting against the piers railings, watching the
night sea.
Jordan freaks.
JORDAN
(nervously)
What the fuck, what the fuck, what
the fuck… that’s her!
VERGILE
(jokes)
Now look buddy, just go up and say
what ever comes to you, if
anything?
JORDAN
I can’t feel my face… she’s so
perfect! I’m freaking the fuck out!
Jordan turns to leave but is stopped by his friends.
BO
Look man, you can do this, just go
up and say hello.
JORDAN
No I can’t! My brain stops every
time I remember her face! I’m a
fucking bitch! I can’t!
CB grabs Jordan by his blazer lapels and gives him a good
shake.
CB
Wake the fuck up! You can do this,
you can do anything!
JORDAN
… anything?
CB
That’s right man, and not only that
but she’s up there waiting for you
and only you! The girl of your
dreams, fuck, of all our dreams! Is
up there and waiting for one single
thing, in this entire world…
and that’s you!
JORDAN
Me?
CB
You’ve got it all man and she wants
it, so don’t you dare fucking deny
her!
Jordan began to nod his head and smile.
JORDAN
Thanks CB.
CB
No problem man, now fucking go get
her!
Jordan’s friends nod to him and give him encouragement as he
turns and walks up the pier.
EXT. PIER - NIGHT
Jordan slowly walks up the pier, his boom box in hand, but
before he says a word she turns to him, a smile coming to
her face at the sight of him.
She wore a simple dress and a SILVER CHAIN that dangled down
beneath her dress.
YOUNG LADY
I was worried you weren’t coming.
She walk up to him.
JORDAN
(nervously)
I wouldn’t dream of it.
She finishes the distance between them, and brushes his
cheek with her hand.
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
Good! Every girl enjoys a good
chase.
Jordan turns his head to the side at the sight of her smile.
JORDAN
Are… are you real?
She giggles, takes him by the arm and begins to walk.
YOUNG LADY
As real as you need me to be.

everything.
EXT. BEACH - NIGHT
Jordan and the Young Lady arrive on the beach and sit in the
sand, laughing all the while as they did.
JORDAN
(nervously)
I want to thank you.
YOUNG LADY
For what, I haven’t done a single
thing worth thanking?
JORDAN
(excitedly)
No you have, more… more then
you know!
YOUNG LADY
What do you mean?
JORDAN
I am a… well I’m trying to be,
I want to be… a writer.
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
A truly noble and righteous
profession.
JORDAN
Well that’s the plan anyway, I’ve
just kind of been in a rut, for a
while now.
YOUNG LADY
Writers block?
JORDAN
Worst! Lack of inspiration! Until.
. . you came along any way.
YOUNG LADY
Ah, so I am your Muse? Then share
with me. What have I inspired?
JORDAN
(excitedly)
A play… about… about love
and dreams… about a war… a
war against reality!
YOUNG LADY
(doubtfully)
Really, me? I did that?
JORDAN
You did! After waking this morning
I went to our hotel and wrote the
beginning of it!
Full of energy Jordan rose to his feet.
JORDAN (CONTD)
I’ve never written so easily! I
didn’t have to think about a single
word, it just came… besides
waking up this morning next to you,
it was the greatest moment of my
life!
A tear ran down the Young Lady’s face and Jordan saw,
dropping to a knee in front of her.
JORDAN
(rushed, frightened)
What’s wrong… what happened. .
. please tell me… what I can
do!
She looked to him with a smile.
YOUNG LADY
Will you read it to me?
JORDAN
Are you okay?
YOUNG LADY
Yes, fine. Will you read to me,
what you’ve written?
She began to clear the tears from her eyes.
JORDAN
Ah, yes… sure!
With a smile he rose again to his feet in front of her.
JORDAN
(joking)
Just keep in mind I’m a writer not
an actor… but I’ll do my best.
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
I will remember.
Jordan runs his fingers through his hair, closes his eyes
and steady’s him self.
JORDAN
Okay… okay… so imagine
siting in a dark theatre, the
lights dimming even further, the
chatter of audience lowering to
silence. A spot light burst into
life!
A bright spot light shines down on Jordan in the middle of
the beach, the Young Lady smiling at the stage glow that
surrounds him.
JORDAN (CONTD)
A man dressed in a strange garb
looks over the crowd. He brings his
forefinger to his lips and shhhs
the crowd, from left to right.
Jordan acts out the motion of the actor shhhing the crowd.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. THEATRE
Amongst the crowd in the front row, the Young Lady looks up
to Jordan on the stage in front of her, the spotlight on him
the only light to be seen, as he finishes shhhing the crowd.
JORDAN
Quite and listen, for all of what
we were are but whispers now. We
were weavers, enchanters of such
sweet incantations beyond dream’s
dreaming, that the ink of our very
voices could mingle in the thinnest
of air, and grant the burden of the
most beautiful fancies. We were the
wielders of the grandest delusion.
For mirth we tore the supple cloth
of truth, mending it into vivid
garments that could hold one
captive in memories of moments of
the highest highs or hold fast and
shield against the very sickness of
time. It was by our will that the
morning’s song could summon the
tear, it was by our will that the
pain of love was ever found, it was
by our will that this waking sleep,
life was harshly dreamed; it was by
our will. We were the Storytellers
of the lands of Dream, and once we
were of such valiant hues.
With that the crowd stands and applauds, the Young Lady
standing later then the rest, taking the time to clear the
tears from her eyes.
Jordan transfixed, stares up into the stands as the
spotlight shuts off leaving all in darkness, the applauds
still ringing in the dark.
FADE TO:
EXT. BEACH - NIGHT
Jordan sands still, locked in the position he held atop the
stage as the sound of applause lowers slowly O.S.
The Young Lady walks to him and yanks him to her lips.
EXT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - NIGHT
Bo and the others, late at night walk up to their room to
sleep for the night but stop when they notice a small
notebook hanging around the door nob, the opening page
reading.
”Thanx for everything dudes, but I think I’ll take it from
here! ^_^”
They all laugh and walk away.
BEACH TOWN - MONTAGE

The Young Lady stops walking looking troubled and turns to
Jordan.
YOUNG LADY
(sadly)
We’re leaving tomorrow.
JORDAN
I know, us to. What time?
YOUNG LADY
Early, a few of us have work, want
to have time to rest up.
JORDAN
(nervously)
I want to tell you something. I. .
. no, I know I do… I…
The Young Lady puts her fingers to his lips, stopping him in
mid sentence.
YOUNG LADY
(quietly)
Sweeter… sweeter if left
unsaid.
At that Jordan smiled a smile tinged with regret.
JORDAN
Can I… Can I see you off?
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
I would like that…I would like
that very much.
She leans towards him and kisses him.
INT./EXT. CAR/BEACH HOUSE DRIVEWAY - MORNING

and the Young Lady are seen hugging then kissing.
Reluctantly the Young Lady turns from Jordan and walks to
the car, getting in the back seat.
YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 1 O.S.
(laughing)
Was he everything you needed!
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
That, and everything more… he
was what I’ve always wanted!
YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 2
Well that’s good, but we’re on our
way back to reality, so get ready
for the shock.
The Young Lady nods in agreement, then reaches into her top
pulling out her SLIVER CHAIN.
YOUNG LADY
I know… you’re right.
Taking her chain from around her neck, she takes off the
WEDDING RING that hangs on it. Slowly she puts it on her
finger.
YOUNG LADY
(sadly)
It was a dream… and from dreams
we all must wake.

YOUNG LADY (O.S.)
(whispers)
Keep going… no matter what!
Jordan takes the small hand and kisses it’s palm, then
places his forehead in her palm. Taking a deep breath, he
picks up his head, kisses her hand again, places the hand on
his chest, then begins to write.

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - DAY
Weeks later.
Jordan sits at his desk in front of his computer, writing
and scribbling on a piece of paper, writing and slashing
through words, his head shaking as he does.
With a curse Jordan balls up the paper and throws the paper
at the computer screen.
Slouching back in his chair defeated, till two slim arms
come down from O.S., slowly draping over his shoulders,
hands meeting on Jordan’s chest as the chin of a Young Lady
rest atop of his head, only her nose and mouth visible in
the frame.
YOUNG LADY (O.S.)
(smiling)
Shhh. You can do this. Take a
breath… all my faith is yours,
you are all, I believe in.
FADE TO:
INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - NIGHT
Months later.
Jordan shakes his head then drops his face into hands, his
elbows on the desk in front of him. His body trembles and he
shakes his head.
From O.S. a Young Lady steps backwards and sits on the
computer desk next to him. Her face O.S., she runs her
fingers through his hair.
YOUNG LADY (O.S.)
I can’t wait till it’s done. It
will be the greatest thing ever.
Keep writing… I can’t wait till
it’s done… For me.
Jordan looks up to her, nods his head then begins to type
away, her hand still running through his hair.
FADE TO:
INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - DAY
Jordan, with wide eyes slowly sits back in his chair and
smiles.
JORDAN
(disbelief)
It’s… I’m done. It’s finished?!
The Young Lady falls into his lap and puts her arms around
him, then kisses him.
YOUNG LADY
I’m so happy… thank you.
JORDAN
(smiling)
For you… anything.
YOUNG LADY
Will you, write me… another?
Jordan smile deepens as he nods to her, YES.

INT. BOOK STORE - BOOK SHELF - DAY
Later in the year, the Young Lady stands in front of a book
shelf and picks up a book and smiles deeply at it’s cover.
INTERVIEWER O.S.
So tell us, your play is a hit in
play houses, and is soon to grace
Broadway…
FADE TO:
INT. TV STUDIO
Jordan sits on a TV Late Night set, next to the show’s host.
INTERVIEWER (CONTD)
Your recent book, an adaption of
that play, ‘The Waking Sleep’ is a
best times seller, yet what
everyone is wondering about is the
strangely beautiful dedication at
the beginning of the book and play,
a dedication you’ve been tight
lipped to talk about. Is there any
chance you’ll enlighten us a bit
here, tonight?
The crowd applauds.
JORDAN
It’s dedicated to a person… a
person who inspired me, to be who.
. . who I always knew, I could be.
INTERVIEWER
A chance encounter?
JORDAN
An angel… though I never
learned her name.
INTERVIEWER
But why not?
JORDAN
Because… in that blissful
moment nothing mattered, not even
labels.
INTERVIEWER
Could I ask you to cite it to us,
here today?
JORDAN
(laughing)
Sure… why not.
The crowd applauds.
FADE TO:
INT. BOOK STORE - BOOK SHELF - DAY
The Young Lady opens the book, turning to the dedication
page.

Images of those few short days of bliss that Jordan and the
Young Lady shared together.

********Working on this********
Tears fall from her eyes as she reads the dedication.
CHILD (O.S.)
(to the Young Lady)
Mommy are you hurt?
The Young Lady reaches down out of frame and picks up her 3
year old daughter.
YOUNG LADY
No…mommy’s… mommy’s just
fine.
She clears her eyes of tears with the back of her hand.
A MAN walks up to her, placing his hand on her back and
kissing her cheek from behind.
MAN
(smiling)
Here you are. How are my girls
doing?
Young Lady quickly tries to clear the tears from her face
and collect her self, she then turns to the man.
MAN
(concerned)
What’s wrong babe? You okay?
CHILD
Mommy’s fine.
YOUNG LADY
Yes… yes I am. Come on lets go.
The Man takes the child from the Young Lady, holding her in
his arms.
MAN
Are you sure, you’re okay?
YOUNG LADY
(smiling)
I’m sure. You two go ahead, I’m
almost done.
MAN
Okay, babe.
The Man walks O.S. with the Child, leaving the Young Lady
alone in front of the shelf.
She looks at the book still in her hand, shakes her head,
regret filling her face and slowly, reluctantly puts it back
on the shelf, winching as she does.
Kissing her fingers, she places her kissed fingers against
the book cover, turns and leaves frame.
