2013 Spring Short Film!

In these final days of April I’m taking the time out to rewrite a short film I wrote over a year ago. Rewriting in April, planning the shoot in May, and shooting in June.

One of my favorite parts, self induced madness! The lucky bastard! It’s a writer’s thing!

“Muse” A Short Film written by Akil N. DeBerry. Scenes “To Wake,” and “The Lady in Red.” Revision 1.0 (UNEDITED)

          INT./EXT. CAR/BEACH HOUSE DRIVEWAY - MORNING

Viewing out of the back window, to behind the car, Jordan

and the Young Lady are seen hugging then kissing.

Reluctantly the Young Lady turns from Jordan and walks to

the car, getting in the back seat.

                              YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 1 O.S.

                         (laughing)

                    Was he everything you needed!

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

                    That, and everything more… he

                    was what I’ve always wanted!

                              YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 2

Well that’s good, but we’re on our

way back to reality, so get ready

                    for the shock.

The Young Lady nods in agreement, then reaches into her top

          pulling out her SLIVER CHAIN.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    I know… you’re right.

Taking her chain from around her neck, she takes off the

WEDDING RING that hangs on it. Slowly she puts it on her

          finger.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (sadly)

It was a dream… and from dreams

                    we all must wake.

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - MORNING

Jordan sits at his computer, eyes closed and facing the

          window next to him.

          MEMORY FLASH

The Young Lady’s face edged by morning light.

Jordan opens his eyes and smiles, turning to his computer he

          begins to write.

                                                         FADE TO:

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - DAY

          Days later.

Pulling back from his computer, Jordan looks at the computer

screen in frustration, till a small hand comes up from O.S.

          and brushes his cheek.

                              YOUNG LADY (O.S.)

                         (whispers)

                    Keep going… no matter what!

Jordan takes the small hand and kisses it’s palm, then

places his forehead in her palm. Taking a deep breath, he

picks up his head, kisses her hand again, places the hand on

his chest, then begins to write.

                                                         FADE TO:

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - DAY

          Weeks later.

Jordan sits at his desk in front of his computer, writing

and scribbling on a piece of paper, writing and slashing

through words, his head shaking as he does.

With a curse Jordan balls up the paper and throws the paper

          at the computer screen.

Slouching back in his chair defeated, till two slim arms

come down from O.S., slowly draping over his shoulders,

hands meeting on Jordan’s chest as the chin of a Young Lady

rest atop of his head, only her nose and mouth visible in

          the frame.

                              YOUNG LADY (O.S.)

                         (smiling)

Shhh. You can do this. Take a

breath… all my faith is yours,

you are all, I believe in.

                                                         FADE TO:

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - NIGHT

          Months later.

Jordan shakes his head then drops his face into hands, his

elbows on the desk in front of him. His body trembles and he

          shakes his head.

From O.S. a Young Lady steps backwards and sits on the

computer desk next to him, dressed in a RED DRESS. Her face O.S., she runs her

          fingers through his hair.

                              YOUNG LADY (O.S.)

                    I can’t wait till it’s done. It

will be the greatest thing ever.

                    Keep writing… I can’t wait till

                    it’s done… For me.

Jordan looks up to her, nods his head then begins to type

away, her hand still running through his hair.

                                                         FADE TO:

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - DAY

Jordan, with wide eyes slowly sits back in his chair and

          smiles.

                              JORDAN

                         (disbelief)

                    It’s… I’m done. It’s finished?!

The Young Lady falls into his lap and puts her arms around

          him, then kisses him.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    I’m so happy… thank you.

                              JORDAN

                         (smiling)

                    For you… anything.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    Will you, write me… another?

Jordan smile deepens as he nods to her, YES.

Musings with a friend…

At what point do you settle? Truth be told, NEVER!

A friend once told me, “what does it matter, in the end we’re all alone.” I began to open my mouth to argue, but found my self stumped in thought. The fact is, he’s right. Nothing guarantees the presence of loved one’s at our passing, no one there to consoled and help you realize everything is alright. At the end of the day, our last day, it’s quite possible that we will be the only one’s present with any insight into our own lives. Which leaves to question, will you live a life that needs consoling and explanation, or will you live a life where the smile, on your own fading lips, is enough?!

We spend so much effort pleasing the next, be it family or friend, lover or stranger, that we forget the most important person to please is self! I know, a very selfishness statement but I stand by it. I’m not talking the kind of pleasure from material things or wealth, I’m speaking of spiritual fulfillment! I’m talking about the fact that many, if not most, live and die with only a few moments in the entirety of their lives, if that, where they could say they obtained that most elusive sensation, the feeling of absolute knowing. That instance where you are filled to brimming with an overwhelming truth; that you are here for the sake of all, and all is here for the sake of you! A euphoria that eludes to the fact that you are not only, precisely where you should be, but where you chose to be!

I am accused of always sounding as if my age is far greater, my explanation of this was the fact that for some, at a certain age we feel as though we should be so much more, doing perhaps not great things, but things all the same, great to us. And not doing such adds years of stress and regret. You aren’t to old, you’re simply so weighed down, burdened with regret that you feel far to old to succeed! It’s a survival mechanism in people of greatness! Your soul is telling you something is wrong, and the tightening of heart is it making damn sure it’s not ignored!

Passion is a holy whisper, a cosmic tell. And with it, the soul burns brighter and true, fending off the shadows of regret.

The fact is… to do otherwise then passion dictates, is a betrayal of self. I’ve finally realized this, only days ago. You want to live a life immersed in film, and yet the burden of life leads you to the conclusion, that what you wish is impossible. You go through the day convincing your self that stability, and certainty is pivotal for an adult. Your shoulders grow heavy, for reasons you can’t explain. You should be happy, why am I not happy; all you want to be is happy. You day dream of making movies every time you see one, you think, “it’s a shame, but I KNOW it wouldn’t of worked out.” And then there will be a day when you snap! When you realize, or perhaps truly don’t care about success, all you start to care about is giving it one hell of a try! A damn good fight! You feel as though each day is a struggle, and come to the conclusion that you now, want each day to be a struggle with MEANING! But then you receive bills in the mail, a friend is getting married, or having their second child. The appearance of success in the lives of others drags you out of your, not day dream but life’s dream, and back into a world where, easy small successes, are fulfilling and just…

Only after life’s last breath has time truly ran out. Till then the world is yours; you must merely be foolish enough to see it!

A look back at Script Frenzy 2011!

A few pages of my Script Frenzy screenplay from last year, and no I did not finish it! Yes I know, shame! It started off as a simple idea then morphed into stranger fields like metaphysics, the nature of perception it’s self, religion and lots more. I know, I got carried away with a good idea, that soon became a great idea, which at times for us writers, can also mean an impossible idea!

Lidia is a world with the usual cyberpunk themes and a few new ones. Corporations that rival for power, as governments bend to their power. Social differences are vast and near permanent! Mega cities and mega slums. World wide connections dependent on bio components, I call Technicians.

The tag line was, “Evolution is not always forwards, at times it moves back.”

          FADE IN:

EXT. OUTER CITY - THE FIELDS - DAY

A group of young boys sit, crouched beside a wide ribbon of

trash and debris. They dig in the trash until their hands

strike a dampness that covers their hands with cold water.

They take an assortment of varying sized buckets, stained

and dirty, and plunge them beneath the trash using the holes

they dug by hand. When they pull the buckets up, they splash

with the cold river water that lays beneath the thick veneer

          of trash and waste.

With their buckets in hand they run up a narrow trail,

littered with trash and covered by a dense forest canopy.

They stop and and look at their home.

EXT. OUTER CITY - THE GROVE - DAY

The Grove, a mega slum towering into the sky on the backs of

oblong and misshaped buildings built from the very trash of

the mega city of Lidia, and topped with a forest, that fill

          it’s combined roofs.

The boys continue their run through the thick masses that

fill the cramped slum, of winding streets and narrow spaces.

They come to an entrance at the base of one of the massive

          buildings and run inside.

          INT. SLUM BUILDING - DAY

They run up a flight of lopsided stairs. A combination of

electrical cables and roots webbing and knotting along the

buildings’ ceilings and walls, of it’s dark lightless halls

          and corridors.

They come to a large room that has a rift in its ceiling,

leaving it open to the sky, hundreds of feet up. A group of

men man a fire pit that holds a massive cauldron of bubbling

water in which the young boys add their contribution from

          the river.

                              MAN 1

                    Nicely done, boys.

The man gives each of them an approving smile and then goes

          back to manning the flames.

The men place a large metal top on top the cauldron, that

has a long spout that runs down and drips the steamed water

          into large buckets.

The men grab buckets of clean water and begin to carry them

deeper into the building. The young boys, taking two of them

to carry a single bucket follow the men slowly but

          determinedly.

They come to a door surrounded by people, all carrying

          worried or concerned expression.

The sound of CRIES and MOANING permeate the door from the

          other side.

The men place the buckets of water down, next to the door. A

woman opens the door as they do, the SCREAMS of pain fill

          the long narrow halls.

                              MIDWIFE 1

                    Thank you, more then enough.

          She forced a smile.

                              MAN 1

Is there anything else we can do.

                              MIDWIFE 1

No, no the others should be on

                    their way with…

The women stops and looks down the corridor in the opposite

direction the men came from, as did everyone. A group of

women where moving almost at a run for the room.

                              MIDWIFE 1

Here they are. No, we need nothing

else but stay close, just encase.

                              MAN 1

                    Of course.

The group of women finish the distance to the door and hand

the MIDWIFE a bundle of tattered rages.

                              WOMEN 2

They’re the cleanest we could find,

                    I hope it’s enough.

                              MIDWIFE 1

                    It will have to be.

SCREAMS fill the corridor from behind the door.

INT. SLUM BUILDING - LIVING SPACE - DAY

In the the filth and dirt that covers the tight, cramp room,

a young women CRIES out in pain, surrounded by a small group

of women. Candles fill the windowless room with a warm

          light.

A man sits in a corner and looks on with concern flooding

          his features.

The young women is giving birth.

She wales as she pushes, as the Midwives help as much as

          they can.

The young women CRIES out and one of the Midwives around her

reaches down and pulls up into view, a baby boy.

A midwife brings the bundle of tattered rags and unrolls

them. She then shakes her head at the dirt stained cloths.

She looks down at her dress, a much cleaner garment even

with the edged border of grime along the dress’s hem. The

midwife looks to the others and shrugs. She drops the rages

and tears a good portion of her dress, shakes it free of

loose dirt and then hands it to the others.

They rap the baby in the dress and hand the baby to the

mother. The man in the corner, the father, moves to the

          mother and kisses them both.

                                                              FADE TO:

EXT. OUTER CITY - THE FIELDS - DAY

          Ten years later.

A boy runs through the fields of trash with his friends,

          laughing and playing.

They come up to a clearing and pause in awe as they gaze

          into the distance.

          The boy looks on, smiling.

A loud spike of STATIC burst into life, and only the boy

          reacts to the deafening sound.

He becomes scared and frightened as his vision pixalates,

and  the sound of STATIC and countless VOICES grow in his

head. He falls to the ground screaming. His friends crowed

          around him, in worry.

The boy squeezes his he eyes Shut.

          BOY’S POV

In the blackness the hectic waling of VOICES, STATIC and the

boys quickened BREATHING peak, then begin to slowly fade as

the boys BREATHING slows and steadies. Replaced by a growing

sound of a woman’s SINGING, but that to quickly fades.

          RETURN TO SCENE:

The boy opens his eyes, his friends help him up with worried

faces. The boy looks to them smiling, and then locks eyes

with the mega city of Lidia in the distance.

                                                              FADE TO:

INT. OUTER CITY - THE GROVE - DAY

          A year later.

The boy walks through the body packed streets, the towering

slums blocking much of the open sky, the forest on their

tops blocking what ever was left.

The boy shakes his head, and looks disoriented. He moves to

a side alley and hunches in the filth. The crushing sound of

STATIC and VOICES fill his head. He shakes in pain.

He closes his eyes, and begins to breath deeply. The sound

of STATIC and VOICES fade and becomes slowly replaced by a

woman’s SINGING, but that to quickly fades.

The boy open’s his eyes and smiles.

                                                              FADE TO:

INT. SLUM BUILDING - BOY’S ROOM - DAY

The boy lights a candle, filling his cramped, windowless

room with orange light. He sits down in a corner of the room

and closes his eyes. He breaths deeply.

He moves his head about, as if searching for something with

his closed eyes. Turning his head to the side, he hears it.

Lowly, barely audible to him, he hears the sound of a woman

SINGING, but it soon fades away. He open’s his eyes and

smiles. With a face of triumph he closes his eyes and again

          try’s to hear the song.

EXT. SLUM BUILDING - ROOF - DAY

Climbing from out of a crack that splits the buildings open,

the boy pulls hims self up to it’s roof. He walks amongst

the sea of antenna and wires that cover the roof almost as

thickly as the dense roots. Antenna stand attached to

anything, building or tree trunk clustering the elevated

forest bed with webs of metal.

He comes to the edge of the forest, and the edge of the

buildings’ roof and sits against a broad tree trunk, facing

the mega city in the distance. Holding his folded knees in

his arms he closes his eyes and concentrates.

GROVE FOREST - TIME LAPSE MONTAGE

The boy holds his siting position, but his cloths and hair

rapidly change as the sky turns from day to night and back

          again.

As he sits the sounds of STATIC and countless VOICES grow so

loud that they become no longer distinguishable.

The boy’s head turns to the side and concentration fills his

features. The sound of his slow and steady BREATHING begins

to over power the noise of STATIC and VOICES.

All the sounds slowly begin to fade away, leaving the boy in

          a soundless void.

And out of this void a faint sound of SINGING grows slowly,

until it fills everything, the slum, the forest, and the

          boy.

The boy open’s his eyes and smiles, the sound of SINGING

INT. REPUBLIC OF LIDIA - KARDON CORPORATION HQ - MEETING

          ROOM - DAY

A group of men sit around a table, in a grand room that

looks out over the entire city.

                              CHAIRMEN DIRECTOR SMITH

It has come to my attention that

                    our population of Techs has

steadily been dropping, what is the

                    reason?

                              DIRECTOR JOHNSON

It is true, I fear Mr. Chairmen.

                    Other companies have been sending

                    out heavy recruiting patrols, to

every possible corner of the world.

                    Even here, foreign corporations

have invaded our land and stole our

                    most precious commodity.

                              DIRECTOR WILLIAMS

It was only last quarter when a

division of our men stumbled across

a foreign cell. We attempted to

capture one alive, but by the time

                    the smoke cleared all were

                    terminated.

                              CHAIRMEN DIRECTOR SMITH

What is our current holdings in

                    terms of Technicians?

                              DIRECTOR JONES

                    Currently our bank of Technicians

                    numbers 60,000 fully trained and

                    operational and an additional

                    12,000, currently in training.

                              CHAIRMEN DIRECTOR SMITH

                    And our competition?

                              DIRECTOR JONES

                    As our current information holds,

Steiner Corp. a mere 30,000. Horak

                    Industries an estimated 52,000.

Morozov Inc. 26,000. And our main

                    comparator Thomson Dynamics,

                    68,000.

The room of men shift in their seats uncomfortably.

                              CHAIRMEN DIRECTOR SMITH

As of today, all Tech recruiting

will be boosted by 40%. We are the

world’s great power, and it will

                    remain so! Director Jones.

                              DIRECTOR JONES

                    Yes, Mr. Chairmen?

                              CHAIRMEN DIRECTOR SMITH

Amplify and boost all city wide

signals. I want every last soul,

sensitive to Analog Sickness to cry

out in the streets for our gracious

                    help. Every soul inside… and

                    outside the city.

The corporation finds more techs in the Grove then the city,

because signals a far weaker normally when they leave the

city. So the Corporation aims signals directly at the Grove

to gather all the A.S. victims that they had missed over the

          past years.

The boy lays in his bed, asleep and dreaming soundly along

The SINGING is slowly replaced by a deafening amount of

STATIC and VOICES. The boy wakes in shock to the noise, and

          stumbles to his feet.

Confused, he stands still and closes his eyes, breathing

deeply. The sounds begin to lower, but then stop.

The boy open’s his eyes, fear filling his face as the sound

of STATIC and VOICES fill his head, yet not till bursting.

He falls to his knees and begins to rock back and forth.

crowds, surrounded by a perimeter of the armed Recruiters,

and the massive lobby pauses and watches their progression.

          INT. OBSERVATION ROOM - DAY

The young boy sits in the middle of a room, void of any

color but white. A bright light shining on him from above,

leaving shadows in the corners of the room. One of the rooms

walls, was completely glass, that only reflected the young

          boys image.

He sits, frightened. A VOICE sounds in the room from the

          walls.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

                    What is your name?

                              BOY

                    Akeno.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

And how do you feel, Akeno?

                              AKENO

                    Fine.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

                    And now?

The room floods with signals, and AKENO grabs his head in

shock, closing his eyes, he rocks back and forth.

He begins to breath deeply, and the sounds of VOICES and

STATIC begin to fade, yet never leave him.

He looks up, shaking his head.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

What are you doing, are you aware

of what you are doing, Akeno.

                              AKENO

Breathing, it helps the noise stop.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

Yes it does. Who trained you,

taught you how to, to breath?

                              AKENO

                    I did.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

                    You?

                              AKENO

                    No.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

                    Then who?

                              AKENO

The song, I learned from the song.

                              VOICE (O.S.)

                    Song?

INT. OBSERVATION ROOM - OBSERVING ROOM - DAY

A group of men stand behind another, dressed in white lab

coats. In a dark narrow room, with one of it’s walls made of

a glass that looked in of young Akeno.

The man at the front of the group speaks, never looking away

from Akeno on the other side of the glass.

                              VOICE

                    Interesting. Have him enter Tech

training, as all the others, but

keep a close eye on him. His

                    abilities to dampen signals around

him may mature into something else,

                    with teaching.

The men behind the man all node in agreement.

INT. KARDON CORPORATION TRAINING FACILITY - MONTAGE

In a massive room with a high ceiling, hundreds of young

children sit cross legged on the floor, all dressed

identically. They sit motionlessly, eyes closed, features

          firm, Akeno sits among them.

In a large room, 50 young children sit upon the floor, each

of their eyes following the movement of their instructor, as

he walks back and forth across the front of the room.

INT. KARDON CORPORATION TRAINING FACILITY - BOARD ROOM - DAY

In a long room, lined with windows that run it’s length,

showing the city of Lidia on the other side. A long row of

children sit upon the floor, facing each other with a large

display screen between them. The display is sectioned into

small grid blocks. Their is one white block at the bottom of

the display, representing the child facing the display, and

a black block at the top of the display, representing the

child on the other side of the display. An image appears on

          the screen of their Instructor.

                              INSTRUCTOR

These are gird boards, the object

of this exercise is to capture all

the grids. When a grid is being

                    contested by your opponent, the

grid will begin to flash, giving

you warning. So you must capture

grids as quickly as possible, and

over ride the grids your opponent

                    has already taken… understood?

The children all node to their INSTRUCTOR.

                              INSTRUCTOR

                    Good, then begin.

The children close their eyes, some of their faces straining

with concentration. At first the grids light slowly towards

the opposite side of the board, but soon the children get

the trick of it and girds begin to flash endlessly across

the boards of the room, a small noise sounding as a child

          wins a match.

Akeno sits with eyes close like the rest, his face calm

without effort. The board before him lighting up faster then

any other, and sounding with a small noise. Faster and

faster Akeno wins his matches, until there is hardly a

second between the beginning of a match and the sounding of

a winners NOISE. His board springing with life, with lights,

devouring his opponents grids in a flash.

As Akeno continues to consecrate harder and harder, a faint

sound begins to fill his head, the sound of SINGING. He

slowly opens his eyes, then slowly turns his head to look

behind him at the Lidia city scape. The sound grows.

The sound of the winners NOISE, sounding off constantly

draws the attention of all the other children in the room,

they all open their eyes to look down the row at Akeno, all

other games stopping, only his board lighting up.

Akeno board flashes with light, but stops, the sound of

SINGING leaving his head. He turns from the window and looks

at the board, a confusion covering his face. He bends and

looks around the board to his opponent. He sees the child on

the other side, sweating profusely and breathing heavy, eyes

          closed with exhaustion.

Akeno bends himself straight again then notices the stares

of the other children, and attempts to shrink in size,

bringing his arms and head close to his body.

A door opens at the far end of the room, the Instructor

enters and walks down to Akeno’s board, on the other side

and checks up on the exhausted child.

                              INSTRUCTOR

                    Are you okay?

The Child nodes to him. The Instructor motions for the child

to move to the side, and he takes the child’s seat.

Akeno tight in his ball, notices nothing until his boards

begins to light up. He looks up and sees a small grouping of

white lights, slowly being to flicker and turn black. He

straightens himself, then closes his eyes.

The white grids, all of them stop flickering. The ring of

black grids around his white begin to flash, then turn

white, but then the same black grids begin to flash again,

          turning back to black.

Akeno concentration deepens as his face begins to reveal

just how how much, but his features begin to loosen and calm

as the sound of SINGING grows within his head. Akeno opens

his eye’s and turns again to the city behind him, the

          SINGING grows louder.

The Instructor sits, eyes closed, face calm as he captures

another one of Akeno’s girds. But then the board remains

still for a second, and the Instructors’ face begins to

reveal confusion. One of his blocks begin to flash, one

lining Akeno’s last remaining grid, then another on the

opposite side of the board, then another, and another. The

Instructors face begins to strain, and he opens his eyes as

everyone of his grids begin to flash. As he looks on in

disbelief, everyone of his blocks are captured and the

winners NOISE sounds. Akeno stands, and walks to the side of

the board and bows to the Instructor.

                              AKENO

Teacher, how is it a Technician is

                    granted permission to leave the

                    premises?

The Instructor looks up to the Akeno, he’s head still bent

waiting on his reply, and smiles to him proudly.

                              INSTRUCTOR

                    Technician’s are the very reason

the world is able to function.

There is no service or commodity

valued greater, and no item more

sought. To be able to leave Kardon

premises a Technician must be of

weapon grade, so that they may

                    protect themselves if need be.

Akeno looks up, turns to the window behind him then back to

          his Instructor…

Floating about the heavens with the very stars…

For the past few days the universe has been bombarding me with the image of a night sky, endlessly bright with stars! From conversations over heard or apart of; movies watched talking about that very subject or scenes of that very sight!

By effect I’ve come up with a film start with that same image, of a star filled night sky, enlightening the protagonist of the story to the point he sees’ life anew.

Thinking of stars reminded me of the time I first saw “Immortal Beloved” the movie about Beethoven’s life. At the end of the movie there’s a scene when childhood Beethoven floats on a moonlit lake, that reflects the bright stars above, giving the image of him floating about the heavens with the very stars. Makes my heart heavy and tears swell in my eyes even as I watch it now! If you haven’t, please watch this movie, it’s what got me hooked on classical music as a kid!

Truly one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen, “Immortal Beloved” is a true MUST SEE!

A bittersweet, declaration of intent!

It’s one thing to truly believe, any and everything is possible, yet a completely different thing to put those same beliefs into action! I’m shooting this short film of mine, “Muse”, this summer and I’m entering the sweet bastard into every Film Festival I can find! :P LoL

The Vibe of 2011 And Beyond…

GOD! This is what it’s about… this moment, this road we walk, these breaths we take! In the next few subtle minuets take a small gander at this clip from one of my favorite movies ’Joe Versus the Volcano’! This is the kind of snap that brings enlightenment! If only you didn’t have to have a ‘Brain Cloud’ to get it! LoL

Almost completely defines the kind of feel you will one day expect from my work! ^_^

Short Film: “Muse” by A. N. DeBerry *Revised*

Woke up this morning and decided to thumb through some old issues of MovieMaker Magazine and Indie Slate, and from no where, completely out of left field an IDEA for a short film comes to me! Been busy writing it all day and won’t stop till it’s finish! Didn’t plan on making a short this year but looks like the fates had other plans! ^_^

First finished Script, all the other ones are in a messy ugly pile of unfinished parts, as any good writer would have them! LoL Take a read, let me know what you think! I have a script, now what?! LoL

Revision 1.0, Updated March 14, 2011

          FADE IN:

          EXT. BEACH - SUNRISE

In the distance, the rising sun peaks above the Atlantic

ocean, it’s warm gleam stretching across JORDAN’S face,

waking him from his sleep. He looks about confused and

disoriented, perhaps even a bit scared at the fact he is

waking up on the sands of the beach with only a hazy

          recollection of the previous night.

A small hand comes up and brushes his right cheek. Jordan

looks down in confusion that quickly turns to delight as he

takes into view a beautiful YOUNG LADY, her head rested upon

his chest and cuddling his left side.

He watches for a moment as the sun’s glow fills her hair, as

she continues to rub his cheek, smiling happily in her

          sleep.

                              JORDAN

All this is but a dream, too

                    flattering sweet to be substantial.

At his words she stirs, fluttering her eyes to the morning

          light that fills her features.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    What… what did you say?

          She looks up to him.

                              JORDAN

                         (smiling)

I said… I said you are the most

                    beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen.

At that the Young Lady smiles and laughs and again rests her

head on his chest, then closes her eyes.

Jordan looks at her with delight and pulls his arms around

her and closes his eyes, falling back to sleep with her.

          EXT. BEACH - MORNING

          JORDAN’S POV

With his sleeping eyes closed, from somewhere O.S. the

sounds of children’s laughter, talking, music and a dog’s

          barking fills the darkness.

The sounds wake Jordan, who blinks through foggy eyes at the

beach no longer empty but full of people enjoying the sun

          and sea.

He brings his hands up and rubs his eyes.

          BACK TO SCENE:

The morning sun is bright and warm on the back of Jordan’s

hands as he rubs his eyes, then he stops. Lowering his hands

slowly till only his eyes are free to look past his fingers,

he stares out into the ocean, and remembers.

Jerking his head to the left he searches frantically for the

girl that fills his thoughts, not finding her he stands

confused and continues his frantic search for her.

After a moment he looks down and then back up smiling,

snickering as he shakes his head, not once noticing the

SMALL NOTE PAGE clipped to his blazer breast pocket with a

          pen.

He takes another long look around him, his face full of

regret and disappointment, before he walks away from the

          beach.

EXT. BEACH - SIDE ROAD - MORNING

Jordan walks along the dozens of cars along the road.

People with their families walk past, everyone headed for

          the beach.

Mentally Jordan goes through what just happened to him, not

to sure if any thing at all truly happened.

Facially he goes from confused, regretfully to happy only to

          start the cycle all over.

As he nears a Motel in the distance, he finally settles on

joy, laughing out loud with a wide smile as he takes out his

notebook hoping to write something, but becomes disappointed

when he can’t find a pen.

Confused at being without pen, Jordan shrugs and continues

          to walk.

          INT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - MORNING

Jordan burst into his dark room with a smile on his face,

the morning sun beaming into the room, his room mates

          protest loudly to it’s light.

                              CB

Ah! Shit, to bright… to bright!

                              VERGILE

What the hell man? Close the door.

Jordan closes the door and moves to the large window of

          their room.

                              JORDAN

                    Something happened… last night.

I’m not sure what happened, but I.

                    . . I feel different, clearer?

                              TURTLE

                         (jokingly)

Ha, thank somebody got some butt

                    last night!

          Jordan’s friends laugh.

                              SINCLAIR

Is that it fool, finally get some

                    ass, wit so bitch self?!

          They laugh again.

Jordan stands in front of the heavy curtains of the window,

          with smile on his face.

                              JORDAN

                         (laughing)

                    I don’t even remember?

He said before he threw open the blinds, bright morning

light flooding the room, his friends cursing and falling

from their beds trying to cover their eyes.

Jordan moves to his bag, opening it, he pulls out a pen and

          notebook.

                              SINCLAIR

                    Ah! Man, what the fuck!

                              TURTLE

Shit! I guess it’s time to get up,

                    then.

                              CB

                    Fuck I’m hungry!

                              VERGILE

What the hell are you doing, J?!

Jordan moves to the table, topped with a large boom box,

next to the window and begins to write quickly, dashing

thoughts onto the page, wanting to take advantage of the

          blissful feeling he was in.

From outside BO burst into the room.

                              BO

                         (laughing)

                    Morning bitches!

          Bo takes a deep breath.

                              BO

And what a beautiful morning it is.

Bo enters the room and closes the door behind him.

                              SINCLAIR

                    Why you so happy, bitch?

                              CB

                         (joking)

Don’t tell me got some booty too.

                              BO

O and what juicy booty it was!

                              VERGILE

Man, what the fuck! We out her with

all this rampant ass around us and

our dicks still dry as fuck?

                              SINCLAIR

                         (to Bo)

Yeah, how the fuck just yo punk

                    self and J, getting ass?

Bo turns to Jordan who is consumed with his writing.

                              BO

                         (to Jordan)

Wow! You telling me you fucked that

                    angel, from last night?!

Everyone turns and looks at Jordan, who himself looks up to

          Bo.

                              JORDAN

                         (confused)

What the hell are you talking

                    about?

Bo moves to sit on the edge of the bed in front of Jordan

          and looks at him confused.

                              BO

Fuck! I guess you where that fucked

                    up. You don’t remember… fuck

she was like nothing I’ve ever

                    seen.

                              TURTLE

                    Was she hot as hell?

                              BO

No man, she was wife material,

                    beautiful and perfect! Every

fucking dude in the damn bar was

looking at her, and our man here. .

                    .

Bo points at Jordan, who’s eyes where wondering on the rooms

carpet floor trying to remember something, anything from

          last night.

          MEMORY FLASH

A young girls’ face edged with sunlight.

                              JORDAN

                         (to himself)

                    No… that was a dream?!

                              BO (CONTD)

Was the only one she would talk to.

Fuck, the only one she would look

                    at!

                              SINCLAIR

                    Bull shit!

                              TURTLE

                    You serious?!

                              JORDAN

                         (to himself)

                    No… I don’t remember. It was a

                    dream, she was a dream… wasn’t

                    she?

                              BO

                         (to Jordan)

                    No man… she wasn’t.

          Jordan looks up to BO.

                                                     DISSOLVE TO:

          FLASHBACK - INT. JAKE’S BILLIARDS - NIGHT

Jordan and Bo walk into the bar. It’s packed with people who

laugh, drink and play pool at the many available tables.

                              BO (V.O.)

So as soon a we left y’all to those

girls at the pier, we went over to

the local beer joint some cute ass,

                    and it was.

Jordan and Bo walk through the packed room to the bar.

                              BO (V.O.)

I even got our little depressed

poet here to drink a little.

                              JORDAN’S FRIENDS (V.O.)

                         (laughing)

                    Oh shit!

Jordan and Bo find seats at the bar and take a sit.

                              BO

                    Come on man, you’re always

complaining how you always do the

same thing, how the boredom of back

home is butt fucking your writing

to death! Dude let the fuck loose!

Tonight have some drinks and chill,

                    you know something new!

                              JORDAN (V.O.)

                    But alcohol taste like mosquito

                    piss!

                              JORDAN

                    But alcohol taste like mosquito

                    piss!

                              BO

Just one night, step the fuck out

of your usual and live a little,

                    man.

Jordan turns in his stool and looks around the bar.

                              JORDAN

                    I don’t know man.

Jordan’s eyes fall on a YOUNG LADY through the crowd, on the

          opposite end of the bar.

The BARTENDER walks up to them.

                              BARTENDER

What can I get you fellas?

                              BO

I guess just me then. Yeah, a eager

                    bomb and a… y’all got

                    Victory’s?

                              BARTENDER

                    Yep, sure do.

Jordan turns from his staring of the girl, to staring of the

bar top in front of him, he shakes his head.

                              JORDAN

                    Double that!

                              BO

                    What?! Fuck yeah!

Bo shakes Jordan by the shoulders.

                              BARTENDER

Double eager bombs and Vi’s, coming

                    up.

The Bartender walks off to get their drinks.

                              BO (V.O.)

So we spend some time getting

                    right, me talking to anything

                    pretty that comes near. Jordan,

                    fucking aloud, having a drunken

                    argument with himself about trying

to gather up the nuts to talk to

                    some girl.

                              VERGILE (V.O.)

                         (laughing)

Fucking again J?! We got to work on

                    that yo.

                              SINCLAIR (V.O.)

Yeah man you always putting pussy,

not even up on a fucking pedestal,

you like plopping that shit up on

                    ah fucking alter!

                              TURTLE (V.O.)

Dude, you do kind of suck when it

comes to the hoes, my dude.

                              JORDAN (V.O.)

Thanks for that pep talk, fuckers!

                              BO (V.O.)

Yeah but that wasn’t even the worst

of it, if I had known, I wouldn’t

have let him touch a fucking drop!

                              CB (V.O.)

                    What the fuck happened?

The Music playing in the bar stops as an announcer at the

back of the bar talks to everyone through his mic.

                              ANNOUNCER

                    Alright everybody, It’s Thursday

night and it’s about that time! Who

ever with the cojones and the good

grace to bless us all with a song,

come up and sign up for Karaoke! We

                    start in 30!

          Bo’s eyes grow big.

                              BO

                    Oh shit?!

Bo turns to Jordan, scared only to become confused when he

sees only Jordan’s empty stool, turning in circles.

He looks around the bar, finally catching Jordan’s back

moving through the bar’s crowd to sign up for Karaoke.

                              JORDAN FRIENDS (V.O.)

                         (laughing)

O you fucked you Bo! And he was

drunk?! Fuck I’m pissed I missed

                    that!

                              BO (V.O.)

I know right, I was gearing up to

be embarrassed to death by this ass

till the first person to sing went

                    up there… but then I didn’t

care about anything, no one did.

                              ANNOUNCER

                    … come on up.

a YOUNG LADY comes walks up to sing, her face hidden from

view by the shoulders and heads of those she passed, the

eyes of everyone fixed on her as she walked.

                              ANNOUNCER

Here you go sweet heart, sing away.

The Announcer hands her the mic, and walks away, as she

          turns to to the crowd.

                              JORDAN (V.O.)

                         (confused)

                    What did she look like.

                              BO (V.O.)

                    Beautiful, like a dream…

          MEMORY FLASH

A young girls’ face edged with sunlight.

                              BO (V.O./CONTD)

… Something you don’t even want

to believe real, till you see it. .

                    .

Jordan at the bar squints and shields his eyes as the young

girls face emits a blinding light, the color of sunrise,

          that only effects him.

                              BO (V.O./CONT’D)

…Because the thought of such a

wonder only reminds you of others.

                    . . others you’ve missed … a

                    thought so ugly, it hurts.

He strains to see past the light but can’t, finally giving

up, he closes his eyes in pain.

          JORDAN’S POV

The blackness of Jordan’s closed eyes is slowly filled with

the sound of music, a very familiar tune to him.

          Somewhere Over The Rainbow (OVER)

          RETURN TO SCENE:

                                                     DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. COUNTRY SIDE - FARM FIELD - DAY (BLACK AND WHITE)

Somewhere Over The Rainbow (OVER) Continues to play.

Jordan opens his eyes and sees a colorless countryside land

scape, as a YOUNG LADY in the distance, sings to the sky.

Jordan approaches her with a smile on his face as she rounds

a hay stack that blocks his vision of her.

As he moves around it, he becomes confused as she is no

where to be seen, the sound of her singing still filling the

          air around him.

He lays back against the hay stack and closes his eyes.

Small hands reach down from O.S. and cup his face.

He opens his eyes with a bright smile and looks up, only to

          find a sky without color.

Jordan looks down then back up, confused at the fact that he

is now sitting on the ground in front of the YOUNG LADY, who

sits on a bale of hay, the sun above shadowing her face.

He shields his eyes from the suns glare as she takes his

face in her hands and moves her’s closer to his, blocking

the sun and exposing her features.

She sings the final few lyrics of the song to him, as his

eyes travel over ever single bit of her face.

When she finishes the song she smiles to him and kisses him

          on the lips.

The sounds of applause and cheers sound from O.S.

                              BO (V.O.)

That was great, your turn J!

Bo says with a barely audible voice, that grows stronger and

          stronger.

                              BO (V.O.)

                    Jordan! Jordan! Your turn! Fucker,

                    snap out of it!

Bo shouts almost deafening, Jordan’s eyes jerk open while

          still kissing the Young Lady.

                                                    QUICK CUT TO:

          FLASHBACK - INT. JAKE’S’ BILLIARDS - NIGHT

Jordan looks about confused, looking at the drink in his

hand and placing it down carefully, staring at it worriedly.

                              BO

                    You okay?

                              JORDAN

                    Ah… yeah, yeah I’m good.

                              BO

                    Well that’s good, your up!

                              JORDAN

                         (confused)

                    I’m up?

Realizing Bo’s meaning, Jordan shakes his head, then stands

          from his seat.

                              JORDAN

                         (smiling)

                    I’m up!

Jordan marches through the crowd, up to the mic.

With mic in hand waiting for the music to start, Jordan

looks around the bar for the YOUNG LADY who just finished,

but can’t find her in the crowd.

Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (OVER)

As the music plays Jordan sings effortlessly, never looking

at the lyrics on the page. He sings with so much feeling and

love that the crowd are drawn in, clapping and cheering,

          some singing along with him.

At the end of the second verse at the sound of the flute

solo Jordan and the crowd turn to the bar to find Bo playing

a FLUTE and dancing at the same time. The crowd cheers him

          on.

As the Bo finishes his flute solo, Jordan turns in confusion

and delight as a group from the crowd stand from their

seating with brass horns and begin to play along with the

          horn solo.

Jordan hums and dances to the horns and as they finish he

          sings on.

                                                    QUICK CUT TO:

          INT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - MORNING

                              SINCLAIR

What the fuck Bo?! Where the fuck

                    did you get a flute?!

                              CB

Hey man I didn’t know you could

                    play anything.

                              BO

I didn’t preform no fucking flute

                    solo last night, dumb ass!

Jordan stands from his seating, and walks over to his bag.

                              JORDAN

Hey that’s the way I remember it.

                              VERGILE

So what happened with the girl, J?

                              JORDAN

I don’t remember. I woke up on the

beach with her next to me.

                              TURTLE

                    Damn! The fucking beach?

                              JORDAN

Yeah but we feel back to sleep, and

when I woke the second time she was

                    gone… I thought she was just a

                    dream.

Jordan said with a weak smile.

                              CB

Well, what are you going to do, go

                    looking for her or something?

                              JORDAN

She left me on the beach man, I

don’t think she wants me to chasing

                    after her.

                              TURTLE

I don’t know man, girls usually

like it when you give’em a little

                    chase.

                              JORDAN

No they don’t… wait do they?

Fuck I suck when it comes to girls.

I don’t know what to do!

Jordan slumps down on the bed, looking defeated, as Bo

notices the NOTE PAGE pinned to his blazer pocket.

                              BO

                    What the fuck is that?!

Bo said taking the note from Jordan’s pocket.

                              JORDAN

                    What’s that?

Bo gives the note a quick look over.

                              BO

                    Holy shit! It’s a note… from

                    the girl… from last night!

                              SINCLAIR

                         (laughing)

                    Bullshit!

                              TURTLE

                    What’s it say?

                              BO

One second, one second let me read.

Bo reads the note to him self, a smile growing on his face

as he did, everyone crowding around him as he did, all but

          Jordan.

                              BO

She says, “last night was the best

                    night of my life!”

                              VERGILE

                    Nice, J!

                              BO (CONTD)

                         (confusion, disbelief)

”And I am more then willing for

another. Meet me at the pier at 9

if your up for another too!” Hugs

                    and kisses, hugs and kisses?!

Everyone looks up at each other and then to Jordan, who’s

          face fills with dread.

                              JORDAN

                    What?!

                              CB

Fuck… we got a lot of work to

                    do!

All of Jordan’s friends nod in agreement.

                              JORDAN

                         (confused)

                    What are you talking about?

                              TURTLE

I don’t know what you did, but you

dropped it hell’ah heavy on this

                    chick!

                              SINCLAIR

Now we just gotta make sure you

don’t fuck it up with being you!

All of Jordan’s friends nod in agreement again.

                              JORDAN

                    What…

Jordan backs away from them around the bed, finding room to

          pace back and forth.

                              JORDAN (CONTD)

                    … I can’t meet her, I wouldn’t

know what to say. I don’t even

remember what the fuck I said to

get this far… and if she looks

any thing like what I remember from

                    this morning…

Jordan pauses and grins, up at the dirty ceiling.

                              JORDAN (CONTD)

                    … I can’t, fuck! But I want to,

                    but I can’t! Why the fuck can’t I?!

Jordan continues to argue with himself as his friends form a

          huddle.

                              SINCLAIR

At it again, crazy bastard! What

are we going to do! He needs this

                    man!

                              BO

I know, I know, but he’s already on

                    full punk ass mode!

                              TURTLE

Let’s just help his bitch self

                    without him knowing!

                              CB

We get him fresh, lie to his

fucking face, and sit his ass right

down in this little pretty girl’s

                    lap!

                              VERGILE

Was she really that banging, Bo?!

                              BO

                    You wouldn’t fucking believe!

SINCLAIR looks back at Jordan, still arguing with him self

and shakes his head before he turning back to the circle.

                              SINCLAIR

                              TURTLE

                         (laughing)

                              BO

                    So mission unbitch’ahfy is in

The ring of them look to each other and nod.

                              CB

                    Fuck yeah it is!

The ring of them all clap their hands, something falls from

          Bo’s pocket as he does.

Bo looks down and sees a small shiny FLUTE. He bends down

and picks it up before anyone else sees it.

                              BO

Keep this shit to yo self, man!

                              CB

They all go to Jordan, telling him it’s okay, he doesn’t

Finishing their meal they sit around a table, Jordan’s boom

box taking it’s own seat, a few stretching and others

rubbing their stomachs in pleasant defeat.

                              TURTLE

Damn, that was good! So what’s the

                    plan tonight?

                              SINCLAIR

                    The same old.

You got damn right, we shall!

They all get up from their seats, tipping and say good by to

          their waitress.

EXT. BEACH - BOARD WALK - NIGHT

They walk along the board walk, saying hello to any female

          that passes by.

Bo notions his head to the distance, as a few of them turn

to look, Jordan only smiles at the night sky, consumed by

the moment of the night ocean air and the music that plays

          from his boom box.

Turtle reaches in his pocket and pulls out a box of

          cigarettes.

                              TURTLE

Fuck you weren’t joking Bo. Someone

                    got a light.

Jordan looks down to turtle as Bo hands him a lighter.

                              JORDAN

                    What?

                              BO

O nothing, it’ll come to you in a

                    bit.

Bo said as the others began to snicker and laugh.

Jordan looked to them in confusion then turns around, his

eyes growing with dread as he just now notices he’s standing

at the beginning of the pier, and not to far up it, a girl

stands resting against the piers railings, watching the

          night sea.

          Jordan freaks.

                              JORDAN

                         (nervously)

What the fuck, what the fuck, what

                    the fuck… that’s her!

                              VERGILE

                         (jokes)

what ever comes to you, if

                    anything?

                              JORDAN

                    I can’t feel my face… she’s so

perfect! I’m freaking the fuck out!

Jordan turns to leave but is stopped by his friends.

                              BO

Look man, you can do this, just go

                    up and say hello.

                              JORDAN

No I can’t! My brain stops every

                    time I remember her face! I’m a

                    fucking bitch! I can’t!

CB grabs Jordan by his blazer lapels and gives him a good

          shake.

                              CB

Wake the fuck up! You can do this,

                    you can do anything!

                              JORDAN

                    … anything?

                              CB

That’s right man, and not only that

but she’s up there waiting for you

and only you! The girl of your

dreams, fuck, of all our dreams! Is

up there and waiting for one single

                    thing, in this entire world…

                    and that’s you!

                              JORDAN

                    Me?

                              CB

You’ve got it all man and she wants

it, so don’t you dare fucking deny

                    her!

Jordan began to nod his head and smile.

                              JORDAN

                    Thanks CB.

                              CB

No problem man, now fucking go get

                    her!

Jordan’s friends nod to him and give him encouragement as he

turns and walks up the pier.

          EXT. PIER - NIGHT

Jordan slowly walks up the pier, his boom box in hand, but

before he says a word she turns to him, a smile coming to

her face at the sight of him.

She wore a simple dress and a SILVER CHAIN that dangled down

          beneath her dress.

                              YOUNG LADY

I was worried you weren’t coming.

          She walk up to him.

                              JORDAN

                         (nervously)

                    I wouldn’t dream of it.

She finishes the distance between them, and brushes his

          cheek with her hand.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

Good! Every girl enjoys a good

                    chase.

Jordan turns his head to the side at the sight of her smile.

                              JORDAN

                    Are… are you real?

She giggles, takes him by the arm and begins to walk.

                              YOUNG LADY

As real as you need me to be.

          BEACH - MONTAGE - NIGHT

          C)EXT. STREET CORNER - NIGHT

They come to a crossing, waiting for the light when the

Young Lady tells Jordan that she loves the song, just

beginning to play on his boom box. At that, he places his

boom box down, turns the music up and then asks for a dance.

They dance away to the music, ignorant of any one and of

          everything.

          EXT. BEACH - NIGHT

Jordan and the Young Lady arrive on the beach and sit in the

sand, laughing all the while as they did.

                              JORDAN

                         (nervously)

                    I want to thank you.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    For what, I haven’t done a single

                    thing worth thanking?

                              JORDAN

                         (excitedly)

No you have, more… more then

                    you know!

                              YOUNG LADY

                    What do you mean?

                              JORDAN

I am a… well I’m trying to be,

                    I want to be… a writer.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

                    A truly noble and righteous

                    profession.

                              JORDAN

Well that’s the plan anyway, I’ve

just kind of been in a rut, for a

                    while now.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    Writers block?

                              JORDAN

                    Worst! Lack of inspiration! Until.

. . you came along any way.

                              YOUNG LADY

Ah, so I am your Muse? Then share

with me. What have I inspired?

                              JORDAN

                         (excitedly)

                    A play… about… about love

                    and dreams… about a war… a

                    war against reality!

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (doubtfully)

                    Really, me? I did that?

                              JORDAN

You did! After waking this morning

I went to our hotel and wrote the

                    beginning of it!

Full of energy Jordan rose to his feet.

                              JORDAN (CONTD)

I’ve never written so easily! I

didn’t have to think about a single

                    word, it just came… besides

waking up this morning next to you,

it was the greatest moment of my

                    life!

A tear ran down the Young Lady’s face and Jordan saw,

dropping to a knee in front of her.

                              JORDAN

                         (rushed, frightened)

                    What’s wrong… what happened. .

                    . please tell me… what I can

                    do!

She looked to him with a smile.

                              YOUNG LADY

Will you read it to me?

                              JORDAN

                    Are you okay?

                              YOUNG LADY

Yes, fine. Will you read to me,

                    what you’ve written?

She began to clear the tears from her eyes.

                              JORDAN

                    Ah, yes… sure!

With a smile he rose again to his feet in front of her.

                              JORDAN

                         (joking)

Just keep in mind I’m a writer not

an actor… but I’ll do my best.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

                    I will remember.

Jordan runs his fingers through his hair, closes his eyes

          and steady’s him self.

                              JORDAN

                    Okay… okay… so imagine

siting in a dark theatre, the

                    lights dimming even further, the

                    chatter of audience lowering to

silence. A spot light burst into

                    life!

A bright spot light shines down on Jordan in the middle of

the beach, the Young Lady smiling at the stage glow that

          surrounds him.

                              JORDAN (CONTD)

A man dressed in a strange garb

looks over the crowd. He brings his

forefinger to his lips and shhhs

the crowd, from left to right.

Jordan acts out the motion of the actor shhhing the crowd.

                                                     DISSOLVE TO:

          INT. THEATRE

Amongst the crowd in the front row, the Young Lady looks up

to Jordan on the stage in front of her, the spotlight on him

the only light to be seen, as he finishes shhhing the crowd.

                              JORDAN

Quite and listen, for all of what

we were are but whispers now. We

                    were weavers, enchanters of such

                    sweet incantations beyond dream’s

dreaming, that the ink of our very

voices could mingle in the thinnest

of air, and grant the burden of the

most beautiful fancies. We were the

                    wielders of the grandest delusion.

For mirth we tore the supple cloth

of truth, mending it into vivid

                    garments that could hold one

captive in memories of moments of

the highest highs or hold fast and

shield against the very sickness of

time. It was by our will that the

                    morning’s song could summon the

tear, it was by our will that the

pain of love was ever found, it was

by our will that this waking sleep,

life was harshly dreamed; it was by

our will. We were the Storytellers

of the lands of Dream, and once we

                    were of such valiant hues.

With that the crowd stands and applauds, the Young Lady

standing later then the rest, taking the time to clear the

          tears from her eyes.

Jordan transfixed, stares up into the stands as the

spotlight shuts off leaving all in darkness, the applauds

          still ringing in the dark.

                                                         FADE TO:

          EXT. BEACH - NIGHT

          EXT. MOTEL - JORDAN’S ROOM - NIGHT

          reading.

”Thanx for everything dudes, but I think I’ll take it from

          here! ^_^”

They all laugh and walk away.

EXT. BEACH TOWN - DOWNTOWN - SUNSET

The Young Lady stops walking looking troubled and turns to

          Jordan.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (sadly)

                    We’re leaving tomorrow.

                              JORDAN

I know, us to. What time?

                              YOUNG LADY

Early, a few of us have work, want

to have time to rest up.

                              JORDAN

                         (nervously)

I want to tell you something. I. .

                    . no, I know I do… I…

The Young Lady puts her fingers to his lips, stopping him in

          mid sentence.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (quietly)

                    Sweeter… sweeter if left

                    unsaid.

At that Jordan smiled a smile tinged with regret.

                              JORDAN

Can I… Can I see you off?

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

I would like that…I would like

                    that very much.

She leans towards him and kisses him.

          INT./EXT. CAR/BEACH HOUSE DRIVEWAY - MORNING

Viewing out of the back window, to behind the car, Jordan

and the Young Lady are seen hugging then kissing.

Reluctantly the Young Lady turns from Jordan and walks to

the car, getting in the back seat.

                              YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 1 O.S.

                         (laughing)

                    Was he everything you needed!

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

                    That, and everything more… he

                    was what I’ve always wanted!

                              YOUNG LADY’S FRIEND 2

Well that’s good, but we’re on our

way back to reality, so get ready

                    for the shock.

The Young Lady nods in agreement, then reaches into her top

          pulling out her SLIVER CHAIN.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    I know… you’re right.

Taking her chain from around her neck, she takes off the

WEDDING RING that hangs on it. Slowly she puts it on her

          finger.

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (sadly)

It was a dream… and from dreams

                    we all must wake.

INT. JORDAN’S HOUSE - COMPUTER ROOM - MORNING

Jordan sits at his computer, eyes closed and facing the

          window next to him.

          MEMORY FLASH

The Young Lady’s face edged by morning light.

                    Keep going… no matter what!

Jordan takes the small hand and kisses it’s palm, then

places his forehead in her palm. Taking a deep breath, he

picks up his head, kisses her hand again, places the hand on

his chest, then begins to write.

          Months later.

Jordan shakes his head then drops his face into hands, his

elbows on the desk in front of him. His body trembles and he

          shakes his head.

From O.S. a Young Lady steps backwards and sits on the

computer desk next to him. Her face O.S., she runs her

          fingers through his hair.

                              YOUNG LADY (O.S.)

                    I can’t wait till it’s done. It

will be the greatest thing ever.

                    Keep writing… I can’t wait till

                    it’s done… For me.

Jordan looks up to her, nods his head then begins to type

away, her hand still running through his hair.

Jordan, with wide eyes slowly sits back in his chair and

          smiles.

                              JORDAN

                         (disbelief)

                    It’s… I’m done. It’s finished?!

The Young Lady falls into his lap and puts her arms around

          him, then kisses him.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    I’m so happy… thank you.

                              JORDAN

                         (smiling)

                    For you… anything.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    Will you, write me… another?

Jordan smile deepens as he nods to her, YES.

INT. BOOK STORE - BOOK SHELF - DAY

Later in the year, the Young Lady stands in front of a book

shelf and picks up a book and smiles deeply at it’s cover.

                              INTERVIEWER O.S.

So tell us, your play is a hit in

play houses, and is soon to grace

                    Broadway…

                                                         FADE TO:

          INT. TV STUDIO

Jordan sits on a TV Late Night set, next to the show’s host.

                              INTERVIEWER (CONTD)

Your recent book, an adaption of

that play, ‘The Waking Sleep’ is a

                    best times seller, yet what

everyone is wondering about is the

                    strangely beautiful dedication at

the beginning of the book and play,

                    a dedication you’ve been tight

lipped to talk about. Is there any

chance you’ll enlighten us a bit

                    here, tonight?

          The crowd applauds.

                              JORDAN

                    It’s dedicated to a person… a

person who inspired me, to be who.

                    . . who I always knew, I could be.

                              INTERVIEWER

                    A chance encounter?

                              JORDAN

                    An angel… though I never

                    learned her name.

                              INTERVIEWER

                    But why not?

                              JORDAN

                    Because… in that blissful

                    moment nothing mattered, not even

                    labels.

                              INTERVIEWER

Could I ask you to cite it to us,

                    here today?

                              JORDAN

                         (laughing)

                    Sure… why not.

          The crowd applauds.

                    ********Working on this********

Tears fall from her eyes as she reads the dedication.

                              CHILD (O.S.)

                         (to the Young Lady)

                    Mommy are you hurt?

The Young Lady reaches down out of frame and picks up her 3

          year old daughter.

                              YOUNG LADY

                    No…mommy’s… mommy’s just

                    fine.

She clears her eyes of tears with the back of her hand.

A MAN walks up to her, placing his hand on her back and

          kissing her cheek from behind.

                              MAN

                         (smiling)

Here you are. How are my girls

                    doing?

Young Lady quickly tries to clear the tears from her face

and collect her self, she then turns to the man.

                              MAN

                         (concerned)

                    What’s wrong babe? You okay?

                              CHILD

                    Mommy’s fine.

                              YOUNG LADY

Yes… yes I am. Come on lets go.

The Man takes the child from the Young Lady, holding her in

          his arms.

                              MAN

                    Are you sure, you’re okay?

                              YOUNG LADY

                         (smiling)

I’m sure. You two go ahead, I’m

                    almost done.

                              MAN

                    Okay, babe.

The Man walks O.S. with the Child, leaving the Young Lady

alone in front of the shelf.

She looks at the book still in her hand, shakes her head,

regret filling her face and slowly, reluctantly puts it back

on the shelf, winching as she does.

Kissing her fingers, she places her kissed fingers against

the book cover, turns and leaves frame.
